Dudley’s Tavern, mid-18th Century, extinct

The tavern is no longer there but Christopher Dudley was owner of a tavern in 1772. The Mulberry Trees, now over 200 years old, are recognizable by their gnarled trunks and were planted with hopes of developing a silk industry. Dudley’s Tavern most likely continued into the 19th century and field excavations have uncovered bottles, ceramics, glassware, and mahjong tiles in the tavern’s remarkably well-preserved cellar.
